Software/Alter Ego

VST3 · AU · AAX — macOS & Windows

Any sample becomes an instrument.

Alter Ego slices whatever you drop into it and builds pads, arpeggios, grooves and hooks out of the pieces — in key, in tempo, and musical enough to keep. No sound design degree required: load a sample, hit Generate, get back to writing.

Slices itself

Transients, tempo and key are detected on import. Silence is skipped and slices too short to be useful never get made in the first place.

Four generators

Pad, Arp, Groove and Hook — each with recipes that read the material instead of rolling dice blindly.

Master FX rack

Ten slots you fill and reorder yourself: EQ, compression, saturation, reverb, limiting — with chain presets when you just want it to sound finished.

What it does

One sample. As many directions as you have patience for.

Alter Ego is not a randomiser. Every engine reads the material first and makes musical decisions from there.

Explore finds what fits

Instead of clicking through hundreds of presets, Explore proposes an engine, a style and a recipe, then learns from your thumbs up and down. Lock whatever you like with one click and it keeps exploring the rest.

Every slot under your hands

Velocity, length, nudge, time, pitch, reverse — per slot, right in the matrix. Happy with one? Lock it and re-roll only the rest. All of it undoable, all of it saved with your project.

In key, and it stays there

Alter Ego works out the key of your material and keeps transpositions inside it. What comes out fits the track you are already writing — even when the source sample came from somewhere else entirely.

How it works

Three steps to an idea.

1

Load a sample

Drag in any audio file. Tempo, key and slice boundaries are worked out for you.

2

Hit Generate

Pick an engine or let Explore decide. Don't like it? Hit it again. Like part of it? Lock that part.

3

Keep writing

Play it as an instrument, drag the MIDI into your DAW, or just record it. Everything stays with the project.
